Could Kurt Benkert Be The Packers QB Of The Future?

It’s currently 8:28am as I’m sitting here drinking my coffee and wondering if Kurt Benkert has any chance of becoming the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.

Yes. I know it sounds crazy, but could it happen?

With Aaron Rodgers future after this year uncertain, and Jordan Love’s potential in question, I don’t see why a 3rd option couldn’t be available. Now this doesn’t mean I want Jordan Love to fail or that I think he will fail. I thought he looked really solid in his first pre season game. But at the same time I think it’s smart for the packers to keep their options open.

This past week Kurt Benkert had the opportunity of a lifetime to play a majority of the pre season game with Jordan Love out with a shoulder injury. He pleasantly surprised.

He went 18-25, 151yds, 1TD, Int, and a 83.9 passer rating.

It wasn’t so much his stat line but the way that he played the game. He looked fearless. He wasn’t afraid to sling it. He played like he had no worries.

Not only that but he has the respect of his teammates.

Now I’m not saying that he looked like Aaron Rodgers out there. He still has some things that he needs to work on. BUT, I think there could be a future for him in the NFL.

Before the last pre season game I predicted that he wouldn’t make the roster. The main reason was that I think with Jordan Love looking solid and the packers having so much talent at other positions, it could make sense to use a roster spot at another position.

That last pre season game changed my mind. I think if the packers don’t keep him on the roster another team will pick him up before the packers would be able to add him to the practice squad.

Why not keep Kurt and Jordan so that we have another option if Jordan Love doesn’t live up to his potential?
